TKI Hrastnik, d.d. has for years devoted special attention to the environment. Environmental protection and health and safety of our people are one of major concerns and goals to ensure compliance with the current legislation in the field of environment protection and safety at work.

Our goals have been achieved by introduction of new technological processes, devices and the use of purer raw materials in order to reduce pollution, by economical use of energy and water resources, and constant improvement of environmental protection policies.

Environmental policy forms an integral role in the business management of our company. Our commitment to the protection of the environment is reflected in our business and strategic decisions; it  is implemented by planning and conducting  numerous environmental programs,  monitoring  and measuring all environmental aspects.

Major past investments in the environment and protective measures include:

• reconstruction of a steam boiler and the use of cleaner power supply – gas
• construction of a new chlor-alkali electrolysis including membrane process as part of BAT technology as the most advanced and effective process in environment protection
• discontinued production of phosphoric acid and the related waste gypsum  
• reduction of water consumption 
• decreased air and water pollution 
• adequate disposal of hazardous waste  
• separate collection of waste
